Participation in the 52nd session of the UNIDO Industrial Development Board
25.11.2024The 52nd session of the Industrial Development Board of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is being held in Vienna on November 25-27.
UNIDO is a specialized agency of the United Nations whose statutory goal is to assist states in the modernization of industrial production, environmentally sound and sustainable industrial development, the introduction of new technologies and their adaptation.
The Industrial Development Board provides operational management of the organization between sessions of its General Conference. It ensures the development of proposals for program activities and the approval of the UNIDO budget. The Board consists of 53 members elected by the General Conference for a term of 4 years and convenes its session once a year.
Belarus traditionally takes an active part in the work of UNIDO's governing bodies. In November 2023, Belarus was elected to the Board for the fifth time.
The Belarusian delegation, headed by the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the International Organisations in Vienna Andrei Dapkiunas, takes part in the 52nd session of the Board. On November 25, during the discussion of the annual report of the Director General of UNIDO, A. Dapkiunas delivered a national statement.
In his speech, the Permanent Representative noted the increased demand for UNIDO services and expertise in promoting sustainable industrial development, increasing competitiveness and energy efficiency of production, and introducing modern technologies and standards. The diplomat praised the desire of the organisation's leadership to take into account the priorities and needs of Member States as much as possible.
Welcoming UNIDO's cooperation with international formats and integration associations, A. Dapkiunas called on the organisation's leadership to work more closely with the EAEU.
The Belarusian diplomat named strengthening cooperation with middle-income countries as an important area of UNIDO's work. Commenting on the interaction between Belarus and UNIDO, the Permanent Representative emphasized the need for an early launch of the project in the field of eco-industrial parks.
