Belarus — Slovenia
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Slovenia were established on 23 July 1992. Belarus' interests in Slovenia are represented by the Embassy of Belarus in Austria.
The Ambassador of Slovenia to the Russian Federation is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus.
In 2009–2010 and 2016–2017, exchanges of visits took place at the level of the heads of the foreign ministries, consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were held at the level of deputy ministers, and meetings of the Belarusian-Slovenian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation were convened.
Belarusian-Slovenian contacts in the humanitarian sphere developed actively. Since 2012, groups of Belarusian children from regions affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident had, for many years, annually undergone health rehabilitation on the Adriatic coast under a project implemented by the ITF Enhancing Human Security (ITF) and the Slovenian Red Cross with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia.
Within the framework of cultural cooperation, such well-known Belarusian artistic groups as the Khoroshki State Dance Ensemble, the Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and many others repeatedly participated in the prestigious Ljubljana Festival.
Belarus and Slovenia also maintained intensive cooperation in the field of theatre. Slovenian theatre companies repeatedly took part in theatre festivals held in Belarus, while Belarusian theatre companies successfully toured Slovenia.
Cooperation in the field of education developed between the National Library of Belarus and the National and University Library of Slovenia, as well as between the Institute of Business and Management of Technologies of the Belarusian State University and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana.
Illegal EU sanctions and negative trends in the Belarus-EU dialogue have had a restraining effect on cooperation between Belarus and Slovenia. At the same time, channels for dialogue in certain areas remain open. A positive signal in the field of sports is Slovenia's decision, contrary to the position of Lithuania and Latvia, to host the Belarusian national team under its national flag at the 2026 UEFA Futsal European Championship.
