Bilateral trade

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Slovenia has developed positively. Since 2011, meetings of the Belarusian-Slovenian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation were held on a regular basis.

At the initiative of the Slovenian side, cooperation within this format has been suspended.

Sectoral and other sanctions imposed against Belarus in violation of international law, as well as the resulting unfavorable state of Belarus-EU dialogue since 2021, have had a negative impact on the dynamics, structure and volume of bilateral trade in goods and services between Belarus and Slovenia, whose trade turnover had previously reached USD 150–180 million. As a result of the direct effects of the sanctions, as well as their broad interpretation by foreign partners, foreign trade logistics, banking transactions and the traditionally successful bilateral trade in services have become more complicated.

Despite the restrictive policy of the European Union, Belarusian-Slovenian cooperation continues to offer potential for interaction in the areas of mechanical engineering and industrial equipment, logistics, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, digital technologies, education and tourism.
