Participation of Belarus in the 67th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
26.06.2024In Vienna, on June 19-26, 2024 the Belarusian delegation takes part in the 67th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space takes place. The Belarusian delegation at the session includes representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to International organizations in Vienna.
The Belarusian delegation made speeches within the framework of a general exchange of views and on the agenda items “Space and sustainable development”, “The future role and methods of work of the Committee”, “Space research and innovation".
The Belarusian delegation informed about the successful space flight of the first astronaut-woman of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian segment of the International Space Station (March 23 — April 6, 2024). Detailed information about the program of scientific research carried out by the Belarusian astronaut while in space was presented.
The session participants were also informed about the Belarusian space system for remote sensing of the Earth and the prospects for its development, including the creation of a Russian-Belarusian high-detail survey spacecraft and a space monitoring system for near-Earth space based on two small CubeSat spacecraft.
The speeches highlighted also the key role of the Committee in considering issues of peaceful space exploration and the importance of preserving space as a peaceful environment.
