On March 13-17, 2023 the 66th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs takes place.

The delegation of Belarus is headed by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to International Organizations in Vienna. The delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus.

Within the framework of the general debates at the session of the Commission, Head of the Main Department for Drug Control and Combating Human Trafficking of the Ministry of Interior of Belarus A. Silvestrovich made a statement. In his speech, A. Silvestrovich drew the attention of participants to the problem of drug trafficking and the need for strict compliance with the provisions of the UN anti-drug conventions, which are the basis of the international control system.

A. Silvestrovich stressed that countering drug trafficking is one of the priorities of the state policy of Belarus and expressed Belarus' readiness to share practical experience in combating drug crime.

The Belarusian delegation also made a statement on the agenda item “International cooperation to ensure the availability of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for medical and scientific purposes while preventing their diversion”.

The Belarusian delegation drew attention to the problems with the supply of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to Belarus and condemned illegal unilateral restrictive measures that hinder international cooperation and contradict the UN Charter and international legal obligations of states.

The Belarusian delegation called on the countries that are still using such measures to return to the legal track and, in accordance with their international legal obligations, to abandon the use of such restrictive measures.
