17.09.2021

Ambassador of Belarus to Austria Andrei Dapkiunas paid a working visit to the Federal Land of Vorarlberg on September 16, 2021.

Together with Upper Austria and Styria, Vorarlberg belongs to the most industrialized regions of Austria: about 20 thousand companies work here, which exported goods and services worth of 10 billion euros last year. As for the economy of Belarus, the economy of Vorarlberg is characterized by its openness: the share of exports is 60% of the GRP. Vorarlberg is visited by about 2.5 million tourists annually. The region is home to the headquarters and main production facilities of a number of world famous European companies, including Blum, Liebherr, Red Bull, Rauch and others. The history of industrial cooperation between Belarus and Vorarlberg began in the 1980s.

During the visit, Head of the Belarusian Embassy in Austria met with the leadership of the Vorarlberg Land Government. The interlocutors confirmed their interest in maintaining the long-standing tradition of fruitful economic and business cooperation between Belarusian manufacturers and companies from Vorarlberg and noteв the important role of support from government agencies in this process.

During the meeting with the leadership of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Economics, the focus was on the discussion of opportunities to improve the exchange of information on trade, industrial and investment proposals of Belarusian and Austrian business entities, as well as additional areas of promoting direct contacts between the business circles of Belarus and Austria.

An important part of the visit program was made up of meetings and negotiations with the heads of a number of large industrial companies in Vorarlberg – both those that have been fruitfully cooperating with Belarus for a long time, and those potentially interested in the development and implementation of new joint trade and production projects.

With the head of the BertschGroup Holding Hubert Bertsch, the Belarusian diplomat discussed preparations for the implementation of projects related to the optimization of technological and energy processes at Belarusian chemical and oil refineries, energy-saving measures in cement production, and the supply of high-tech equipment for the Belarusian dairy and meat processing industry. Andrei Dapkiunas expressed gratitude to Hubert Bertsch for his sincere long-term efforts as co-chairman of the Belarusian-Austrian Business Council to promote contacts between businessmen of Belarus and Austria.

In his conversations with Austrian industrialists, the Belarusian ambassador paid special attention to the presentation of the possibilities of organizing high-tech production in the Belarusian free economic zones, including in Brest, Grodno and Mogilev, as well as in the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park «Great Stone». Among the topics that were discussed with the heads of large industrial companies in Vorarlberg were the prospects for creating a cleaner production of innovative materials in Belarus and the purchase of Belarusian fruit products by Austrian producers.
