Participation of Belarus in the 66th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
06.06.2023In Vienna, on May 31 – June 9, 2023 the Belarusian delegation takes part in the 66th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space takes place.
The Belarusian delegation at the session includes representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to International organizations in Vienna. More than one hundred delegations of UN Member States, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations participate in the work of the Committee.
On June 5 and 6, 2023 the Belarusian delegation made speeches within the framework of the general exchange of views and on the issue of the agenda “Space and sustainable development”.
The session participants were informed about the exploration and use of outer space in Belarus, the operation of the Belarusian space system for Remote Sensing of the Earth and the National Satellite Communication System and the prospects for their development, including the creation of a Russian-Belarusian high-detail survey spacecraft and the launch of the second Belarusian educational nanosatellite “BSUSat-2”, scheduled for June of this year.
Information was also provided on the implementation of a joint Belarusian-Russian project on the space flight of a Belarusian citizen to the Russian segment of the International Space Station for research purposes.
The speeches noted the activities of the Committee as an example of successful interaction of states in the UN for the search of collective solutions and the importance of preserving space as a peaceful environment.
