On a cultural event in the Embassy of Belarus in Austria

On March 23, 2018 the Belarusian Embassy in Austria hosted a cultural event “Sustrakaem viasnu razam”, which representatives of the Parliament, the Bureau of the Federal Chancellor, the Foreign Ministry, other government bodies and public organizations, Austrian business, cultural and humanitarian circles and media, as well as heads of a number of diplomatic missions. 

Works of students and teachers of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts were presented to the guests of the Embassy. 

Ambassador of Belarus to Austria Dr. Alena Kupchyna addressed to the participants of the event. She noted that the works of Belarusian contemporary art exhibited at the Embassy represent an example of the openness of the Belarusians, their receptivity to new and modern trends in all spheres of life. The aspiration to the future is combined in Belarus with a careful attitude to history, stressed the Ambassador. Alena Kupchyna emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the victims of the Second World War. She drew the attention of the audience to the 75th anniversary of the tragedy of the Belarusian village of Khatyn, which became a symbol of mass destruction of civilians in the territory of the Soviet Union occupied by the Nazis. 

During the event, the Ambassador of Belarus presented the President and Secretary General of the nongovernmental organization Austrian Black Cross P.Rieser and A. Barto with the jubilee medals «100 years of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus». 

The Austrian Black Cross is engaged in the care of the graves of the victims of the first and second world wars, searches for, records and maintains the graves of servicemen and civilian victims of wars located in Austria. With the assistance of this organization, the fate of a significant number of Soviet soldiers who fell in the battles for the liberation of Austria was established.

The Austrian Black Cross also actively promotes contacts between Belarusian and Austrian researchers and archival institutions.
