Anniversary of the Great Victory, the United Nations and space: an unusual perspective from Vienna
25.06.2025On June 25, the opening of the Russian photo exhibition «80th Anniversary of Victory in World War II: Let's remember history with the help of remote sensing images of the Earth» took place the Vienna International Center (Austria).
At the opening of the exhibition, Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of the Roscosmos State Corporation, and Andrei Dapkiunas, Permanent Representative of Belarus to International Organizations in Vienna, addressed the participants of the meeting with a welcoming speech.
The event took place on the sidelines of the 68th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which is currently taking place in Vienna.
The photo exhibition presents images of monuments in different countries dedicated to the Victory in World War II and obtained using the Earth's remote sensing system. The photo exhibition includes photographs of the Brest Fortress, the obelisk on Victory Square in Minsk and the stele Minsk – the hero city, the memorial complexes Khatyn, Ola and Three Bayonets.
The event was attended by heads and participants of national delegations to the Committee session, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, and the diplomatic corps.
