Belarus — Slovenia
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Slovenia were established on July 23, 1992.
The Ambassador of Belarus in Budapest was accredited to Slovenia from December 2008 until February 2019. Since then the Head of the Belarusian mission in Vienna has taken up the duties of a nonresidential Ambassador of Belarus to Slovenia.
The Ambassador of Slovenia in the Russian Federation is concurrently accredited to Belarus.
The offices of honorary consuls of Slovenia and Belarus operate in Minsk and Ljubljana respectively. The Honorary Consul of Belarus in Slovenia, the director of the Slovenian company RIKO, Janez Shkrabec, took up his duties in autumn 2016.
Within the framework of the bilateral political dialogue in 2009-2010 and 2016-2017, an exchange of visits of the Foreign Ministers, consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries at the level of deputy ministers, as well as meetings of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Slovenian commission on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation were carried out.
The Belarusian-Slovenian economic cooperation is characterized by the growing interest of the business communities of the two countries in establishing stable and mutually beneficial contacts. The parties have identified energy, construction, mechanical engineering, agriculture, telecommunications, and tourism as priority areas of cooperation.
The Belarusian-Slovenian humanitarian contacts are successfully developing. Since 2012, groups of Belarusian children from regions affected by the Chernobyl disaster have been annually rehabilitated on the Adriatic coast as part of a project implemented by the ITF Enhancing Human Security (ITF) and the Slovenian Red Cross with the support of the Slovenian Foreign Ministry. Cooperation in this domain is carried out in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement on the conditions for the rehabilitation of Belarusian minors in the Republic of Slovenia.
Within the framework of bilateral cultural cooperation, well-known Belarusian artist groups such as the State Dance Ensemble “Khoroshki”, the Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus took part in the prestigious Ljubljana Festival.
Slovenian theater collectives participated in festivals held in Belarus. Belarusian theaters are successfully touring in Slovenia.
Contacts have been established between the National Library of Belarus and the National and University Library of Slovenia.
The еies between educational institutions of the two countries are being strengthened. The Cooperation Agreement is in force between the Institute of Business and Management of Technologies of the Belarusian State University and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Lubljana.
