19.05.2021

On May 17-21, 2021 the 30th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice takes place in Vienna.

More than one hundred delegations of the UN Member States, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, including the Belarusian delegation, headed by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the International Organisations in Vienna Andrei Dapkiunas, take part in the work of the main specialized body of the UN on international anti-crime cooperation.

In his speech within the framework of the general debates of the Commission, the head of the Belarusian delegation stressed the need to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against both traditional forms of organized crime (illegal migration, human trafficking, drug trafficking, terrorism, extremism, corruption, etc.) and its new forms, including through the use of new financial instruments.

Andrei Dapkiunas announced Belarus' support for the call of the Kyoto Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice on the need to simplify procedures for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters by concluding relevant international treaties.

The Belarusian diplomat also drew attention to the need to accelerate the accession to and ratification of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Palermo Protocol against Trafficking in Human Beings.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus informed the participants that Belarus had submitted a draft resolution on the implementation of the UN Global Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons for the consideration of the session. The project is aimed at strengthening international cooperation and efforts of the UN Member States in the fight against this type of crime.
